Communications 11-12


 

Course Outline 2014-2015 


Communications 11 is a course that is designed to teach the communicating skills of reading, writing, listening and observing. Through various print, audio and visual media, ideas about communicating will be explored for their meaning.

Unit Objectives: 

1.    Writing: an analysis of sentence structure and sentence combining, will introduce the student to better sentence writing competency. A study of grammar will enable a better understanding of sentence structure. Ongoing. 

2.    Short story: reading short fiction will enable students to identify the elements and devices of literary composition. Ongoing 

3.    Novel study: a study of one or more novels will enhance an appreciation for works of longer fiction.

Lord Of the Flies by William Golding 

4.    Drama: comparative studies of different works of drama, in the visual mode enable a critical analysis of interpreting theater.

The Taming of the Shrew by Wm. Shakespeare 

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller 

5.    Poetry: readings of poems will provide an opportunity for the appreciation of the imaginative use of language and its application to lyrical prose.

7.    Film Study: a selection of biographical films will be analyzed for study of film as a learning medium.

The Road Not Taken 

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood
